Mt. Ararat looms over the Capitol of Yerevan. Armenia has a population of about 3,000,000. Armenia proclaimed itself Christian in about 300AD and is the oldest Christian country in the world. The orthodox church has great power and influence.
I hit the streets of Yerevan which turns out to be clean and safe. The people of Armenia seem very friendly and helpful to English speakers.
City center in Yerevan. On March 12, 1922, the Soviets joined Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan to form the Transcaucasian Soviet Socialist Republic, which became part of the USSR.
Another view of the city center. There are very few tourists in Armenia but they are welcome and Im sure many more tourists will discover Armenia.
The Cascade, a project of steps and gardens leading to the 50th Anniversary of Soviet Armenia Monument. The last part of the gardens is still a work in process. Thanks to Wim (fellow traveler) for the information on this monument.
Another typical street scene. The Russian influence is always present and most Armenians speak both Russian and Armenian.
