This is part two of a two part trip starting in Peru and ending in Bolivia.
The border is marked by a brass plaque embedded in the street.
Our beautiful hotel and view of Lake Titicaca in Copacabana, Bolivia.
Passing one of the many islands as we head to our destination on Lake Titicaca, the Island of the Sun.
Fearless leader Dante braves the wind as the boat speeds to the island.
According to legend this is where the creator of the Universe rose up from the waters and threw the Sun into the Sky. We will land at this dock and hike around the Island of the Sun.
Hiking around the island passing ancient Incan ruins.
Tea is always a welcome refreshment, especially coca tea to help with the high altitudes.
Is this the Fountain of Youth? The first Spanish to come to this island convinced themselves that it was. Local people still depend on it as a source of water.
The Basilica of the Virgin of Copacabana, a gleaming white gem of a 16th century Spanish Colonial church.
Locals and tourists enjoy the tranquility of the Basilica. Inside the church there is a dark gold-laminated wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary dressed in a blend of Inca robes and European style finery.
Walking through the streets of Copacabana towards the lake and looking for a nice place for our dinner.
Up the next day and leaving Copacabana going to La Paz, stopping at a high point for a last look at Lake Titicaca.
Taquille Island, out in the middle of Lake Titicaca. Toby spent a night on that island in 2006. It is a tough climb to the village at the top and accomodations were less than basic with one candle and a bed. That trip is Peru 2006.
Busses get ferried across the river separate from the travelers. Someday the people hope for a bridge, but it is controversal.
While waiting for the ferry we have a chance to shop at the makeshift market.
Toby is fighting with the statues again.
On board the cable cars installed not long ago by President Evo Morales. A great way to get from El Alto to La Paz.
Please wait, movie loading. Enjoy the view.
There are about 5 of these stations as you go from El Alto at the top of the mountain down to the city of La Paz.
