This trip will covers both Cambodia and Myanmar, two separate links from our home page. Our Cambodia adventure begans in Phnom-Penh, ventured south to Kep, then returned through Phnom-Penh and headed north to Irrawady, then backtracked south and headed north west to Siem Reap. Hope you enjoy the trip - we did!
We are off from LAX to Taipei, then to Phnom-Penh.
Ganesh greets us on our way from the airport to our hotel.
Next morning we are out and about to see what Cambodians do. For one thing, they have car washes.
And people get haircuts, but in most cases outdoors and in the shade.
Architecture is unusual. Usually you tear down the old building before you build the new. Here you build the new building under the old one.
Fine dining is everywhere and it is common practice to throw your tissue on the ground.
Everyone has to make a living and everything is for sale.
We take a leisurely walk along the Mekong River waterway which is the heart of much of South East Asia.
After our first day we meet our tour guide, Ms. So.
So starts our city tour by taking us to Wat Phnom Center and temple. Temples are almost always accompanied by stairs and one must get used to taking shoes off and on.
The temple is adorned with numerous beautiful reliefs and carvings.
I find an appropriate place to dump a bit of my deceased Aunt Thelma as she asked me to do.
Former King Norodom Sihanouk passed away in October (2012) and the population of Cambodia is still in mourning.
Next visit is the National Museum showing the old style architecture and roof tiles which is synonymous with Cambodia.
Within the gardens are numerous statues and tranquil settings.
Ganesh is always with us. It seems an odd configuration of Hinduism and Buddhism co-exists.
Downtown Phnom-Penh is a busy hustle bustle of constant activity, if you want it, it can be found here.
Beautiful food abounds everywhere.
Next morning we head south to Takeo.
