This is a short “Fly and Drive” trip. You get picked up at the airport, taken to your hotel, and given a car in the morning. You get a phone and a list of hotels all across Costa Rica. Stay as long as you like in one place, decide where you want to go next, call a hotel in advance and head off. At the end of the trip just drop the car off at the airport. Easy, fun and open ended.

2 Driving into Santa Ana, Costa Rica which is near San Jose.
3 My first sites and sounds of San Jose on my way to my first hotel in Santa Ana.
4 My room is great.
5 After a short 20 minute walk I find my first meal. I plan to hit the road in the morning to Arenal volcano.
6 Off to Arenal volcano, about 4 hours drive from Santa Ana. City streets are good.
7 A few traffic jams.
8 Passing through some small towns with beautiful architecture and churches.
9 Nice leisurely drive and no traffic.
10 Gaining altitude into the fog.
11 You can feel a bit on your own out here.
12 Beautiful scenery along the way.
13 The roads start getting worse.
14 Lots of scenery.

16 Stopped for lunch.
17 Pass many homes along the way.
18 La Fortuna to the left.
19 I was told this bridge might be out but it seems OK.
20 Made it. A very nice cabin all to myself.
